In 1920 Prohibition was declared and it lasted 13 years, leaving only half the breweries willing to invest in their operations and development. It was not until 1980 when new ales appeared in the market. These kind of beer was not seen in the country since before alcohol prohibition time and it helped create high quality artisan micro breweries, which nowadays are the most successful in the market. Currently most of the beer market is led by Anheuser Busch InBev and MillerCoors.

10 - Coors Light: This mark ranked ninth among the 10 top rated beers in the United States, it is one of the best-selling beers in 2012 in this country.
9 - Yuenling: Yuenling & Son was founded in 1829, it is the oldest brewery in the U.S., producing 2.5 million barrels per year of lager.
8 - Stella Artois: Launched in the year 1998 is one of the favorite brands of Anheuser Bush Inbev. This Belgian beer is preferred in more than 80 countries
7 - Guinness: it got the No. 6 in 2012 but now it is far behind, this Irish beer sold 167 million each year and is manufactured in 60 countries worldwide.
6 - Heineken: The position held last year by Guinness is taken by this Dutch lager brand, which has grown positively in advertising and sales within the United States.
5 - Corona: It is the best-selling imported beer in the U.S., recently the Department of Justice United States opposed the union of AB-Inbev and Mexican brewery produces Corona, arguing that effected the merger would control 46 % of beer sales in the country.
4 - Bud Light: This beer brand is the most sold in the United States with a record of 269 million cases in 2012, but on the year 2013 it has dropped in the ranking.
3 - Dos Equis: This brand was acquired by Heineken in 2010 and it is one of the best advertised brands and so it has managed to steal the Bud Light made this year.
2 - Budweiser: A major beer brand positioned in the second place in 2012. It is part of AB-InBev and was sued for allegedly diluting their beer, to which the control group responded with jokes and reassured consumers.
1 - Samuel Adams: This beer is owned by the Boston Beer Company, established in 1984 with a homemade recipe and named Samuel Adams Boston Lager, it has reached the top spot and is the largest American brewer.
