So far, we have seen red, rosé, white, deep red wines... but not blue. Although there's already swarming some champagne with this colour, nothing to do with what we show today: blue wine is something new, and just came up in Spain. This is the first blue wine in the world. Surprising, right?

This wine is called Gik Live!, and has been invented by young entrepreneurs in the Basque Country. And it is not only different in colour but also in taste, being sweeter than conventional wines. Its development and elaboration are the result of a research process that has been achieved in collaboration with the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU) and Azti Tecnalia, the food research department of the Basque Government.

The wine can be customized, since the first batch that has been released, which counted 400 bottles, has been developed in a cellar of El Bierzo. But the following blue wines can come from other grapes and wine makers, so it may be different according to customer demands.

These entrepreneurs have jumped all standards of wine culture because they didn't wanted to do something traditional, but something they really liked, without the shackles of conventional wines. It is noteworthy that its development is environmentally friendly and is expected to be marketed among young people, thanks to its innovation, taste and colour.

To achieve this colour they perform a technological process of pigmentation of the grapes. It is sold ??online for a reasonable price of 10 Euros per bottle, through their website, gik.blue. The wine's alcohol content 11.5%, and the goal of its creators is not to compete with designations of origin already existing. Its makers recommend to serve and drink it cold, since it is quite sweet.

However it is, today we recommend you some more traditional wines from El Bierzo, don't miss them!
