According to a study by Swedish scientists, which sought to analyze the relationship between alcohol consumption and risk of AAA, moderate consumption of alcoholic beverages yielded surprisingly positive results for beer and wine lovers worldwide. This study has been published by the British publication The Drinks Business.

AAA is the risk of abdominal aorta aneurysm, consisting of a widening of the abdominal aortic artery thus causing pain in the abdomen and legs, due to changes that occur in blood flow and the pressure that they entail.

The bigger risk of AAA is that the artery may break due to its widening, and cause instant death. For the study of this kind of aneurysm tests were conducted in 45,000 men and 35,000 women between 46 and 84 years old.

Tests consisted of dietary questionnaires that were recorded over a period of 14 years in total, from 1998 to 2011.

Test results showed that men who consumed ten alcoholic drinks per week were 20% less likely to AAA, while women who consumed five alcoholic drinks per week reduced their AAA risk by 43%.

The data are beneficial for both genders, but mostly for women who have the habit of drinking something after a heavy work day or the weekend. The tests also showed that moderate alcohol consumption does not increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

The most consumed alcoholic beverages worldwide are beer and wine, and the studies described above were performed with these. AAAs occur most frequently in people between 65 and 75 years, but is more common among smokers and men.

Always be noted that, despite the studies that talk about benefits of wine, we must keep in mind that the consumption should be always done in moderation. If you are a moderate consumer, today we recommend:
